I’m currently working on the final artwork for the game menu. Just putting this up here to give you an idea of where we are going with the design. Todd is also putting together some designs and we are going to take all of the best elements and mesh them together for the best. menu. ever.

As Jared said, this has been a busy week with midterms and what-not. However, I did manage to get character concepts done and construct a level layout. The characters are very basic. Just torsos with a big head. I would compare them to the vintage fisher price little people. The reason they are so basic is that we are unsure how technical we can get with animations in papervision, plus we do not think we could have enough time to do all the animations necessary. We will be most likely just making a simple hop for the character to move. The next task will be to put this into papervision and see if we can get it to move around.
The level layout will function as a guide for the entire team to follow through the game. I am basically translating what I wrote out into pictures in a massive PSD file. I haven’t gotten to start this yet, but will hopefully finish it for this or next Thursday.

This is the icon set that will be included in the HUD on the main game screens. They will be much smaller and positioned in the top right corner. Roll over to see active states.
This week I’m tackling the SmartFoxServer for the Game. The documentation is excellent. Right now I’m playing around with understanding the code and interaction between everything. It definitely will get interesting.
Here’s a little something to wet your appetite for the upcoming updates. It’s just a few modifications to the server configuration file and the simple chat tutorial.

A little Modification and Play on the Simple Chat tutorial
Busy week. Everyone on the team has been plagued with midterms and research papers. Nonetheless, we still had a group meeting on Thursday with full attendance. Now that we are done with the conceptual stages, we are really getting into the programming. One of our greatest challenges this week will be laying out the grid for the game. With Papervision, are going to have to create interactive grids on each face of the main cube, so that we can map out or levels. We are going test different ways of doing this, whether we have to create separate planes, movieclips as the cube faces, or Papervision within Papervision. This week we are also going to start turning our design concepts for the menus and icons into final drafts. Also, we want to put up some concepts of what the final game cube will look like with the 3D model on top.
