The blog design has been updated to more closely resemble our game.  You can see the design by opening your eyes.

Colored Path

I’ve coded the dynamic boundaries, the colored grids, and the plane replacement into the game.  I also changed a couple things, now the walkable platform is raised, and the activated surrounding planes rise up to show you that they are available.  Just click the picture above and test it out.  Click the swf to begin, then just start clicking planes to extend your path.

ar

This week i started working on Augmented Reality. I have the backbone and math setup with a reference object (using DAEs) to get proper alignment. The next step is for Diemler to animate and texture a DAE for me and i can import it right into my code by swapping out the objects. Hopefully no more guess work will be needed to match the alignment.

Eventually we will be making cards and T-shirts. I also want to expand the symbol and make it larger and test the boundaries in terms of the symbol use. But of course this is an extra and i try not to spend too much time on it.

You can get the Marker Here

Test it out here

We’ve made some major headway this week in a lot of different areas.  The game is starting to actually look like a game, most of our code (Jared’s, Kyle’s, and Chau’s) is integrated, and the website has a design and is being coded.  We are also working on a number of other side-projects to prepare for senior show, such as augmented reality, game manuals, and installation tutorials.

Dynamic Boundaries

I’ve finally done it.  I’ve created dynamic boundaries on a grid system for a 3D Collada model in Papervision.  Yes.

Click the planes to make them active (walkable).  There is a tiny glitch that occurs when the character crosses onto a different grid piece along a corner, he jumps a bit.  I’m working on it.

*UPDATE* I just made a version with even more functionality. Now, you can only click planes that are adjacent to your character. When you walk onto a new plane, the surrounding “activatable” planes rise up, and down again when you leave the plane.

Download MAC | Download PC -  and don’t forget, you’ll need Adobe Air to run these.

So for the past three weeks I’ve been working on getting the WiiMote to work like a mouse AND control the characters. Finally this week I got everything working! The prototype of Fourmation now has full WiiMote compatibility. You use the D-Pad to control your dude, and A button flips the cube. Keyboard functionality is still intact as well. Now all we need to do is merge Jared’s new grid system into this and we will have a pretty sweet looking prototype. Oh, did I mention that I got all this + headtracking working at a steady 30fps? Well it does. For Tuesday I hope me and Jared can get our code together for a nice demo.

Since you guys can never use my code cause you don’t want to set anything up, here is a little video.
Also, Mac and Win executables…just in case your feeling adventurous… [HERE]

Week 13 is at the top of our list for most successful weeks.  Everyone got a lot of work done and we overcame a lot of obstacles.  Todd and Tom have been putting the website together and Chau has been researching and testing out augmented reality with the FLAR toolkit.  Hopefully we will have a site (or a portion of a site) up in the next couple weeks.  Kyle got most of the WiiMote functionality down and the headtracking and wiimote controls work great.  Deimler spent this week creating an overview/walkthrough/manual for the game complete with instructions and pictures.  Jared (me) continued to code and add some more functionality to the grid system in the game.  Everything is coming together and looks amazing so far.
