Week 14 Recap
26 April 2009 | by Jared

We’ve made some major headway this week in a lot of different areas.  The game is starting to actually look like a game, most of our code (Jared’s, Kyle’s, and Chau’s) is integrated, and the website has a design and is being coded.  We are also working on a number of other side-projects to prepare for senior show, such as augmented reality, game manuals, and installation tutorials.

This week i finished up the backbone for the Augmented Reality system. You can see that here Apparently there is a slip-up where it looks locally for some files and not relatively but you can “dismiss all” through that. I have no idea why it’s doing that as all the code is relative.

Next, as a precaution I set up a server in the Replay Lab. Thankfully we won’t need to use it as Jervis was able to get us our Dedicated Server. AWESOME!

Finally, I fixed and updated the previous post. With the Problematic file The new file folder now includes only the necessary files for both windows and mac systems. It also connects to the new dedicated server instead of the server that i was running at home.

Lastly, until Deimler is done with the new DAE files. Me and Kyle began work on putting my server code into Jared’s latest code. The best part is that now we can test it from somewhere other then my apartment with decent speeds.

for just the updated file go here.

Quite the week for me. I conquered the seemingly unconquerable in creating the dynamic boundaries. After that, the rest was history, I figured out simple (not really) ways of creating a multicolored grid, proximity detection, and plane replacement. Here is the newest example that includes all of the previously mentioned features.

Other than all of that other stuff, I had some time to redesign the blog, going off of the design ideas I had for the launch website.

For next week, I plan on having most of the multiplayer and server code integrated with my main project files. I also plan on developing the plane libraries for each player. A player will be able to grab a plane from their library and place it on the grid, matching colors of course.

This week, I helped Jared nail down the logistics of the gameplay. We decided that each side will be a different color and 4 colors will be included in the game (as can be seen in the layout for each side here). Hopefully, once we get the game working to it’s full potential, we’ll be able to randomize each side so there will be a different experience each time.

I have also been working on an animation for Chau’s augmented reality portion of the project. This has been working out well, and here is the example so far: example. In the end, the cube will have characters walking around on each side, however I have been running into a few sizing issues, but this should be finished and working in the upcoming week.

As for next week, I’m going to be diving into preparing code to manipulate the icons of the exe, tray, and app. I will also be helping Jared with some of the game building in the next few weeks since we’re coming down to the end.

This week myself and Tom worked out the website functionality. I focused on much of the nav camera movement & getting an intuitive interface. I have some other fun things I want to add to it but wasn’t able to get to them this week. Getting interactive MC’s to cooperate with the papervision3D libraries was more difficult than I initially thought.

Tom is finishing up some design and will post both of our work in his comments.

This week I worked with Todd on web design and functionality. I worked on laying out the panels, and changed jared’s design into a functional layout. I made the designs for the links. I also worked on the interactivity of the planes.

This week I fully integrated all my WiiMote and Headtracking stuff with Jared’s new grid system into an awesome combination. The game actually looks like its a game now.

I finished up the mouse control so it actually interacts with everything now. Before it was just moving a movieclip around the stage. Now it does that and clicks things.

Other than this I’ve been tweaking and optimizing all my WiiMote classes because were getting strapped for FPS now, so every line counts at this point. I’m working on fixing our tool tips and whatnot right now and some other logistical stuff, hopefully I’ll have that posted up by the time you guys read this.

I’ve been helping Chau get his multiplayer into Jared and mine’s code. Since the structure of our code is a lot different now than when it was when he started, he keeps getting lost. Wednesday we are going to meet up for a sweet code party and hopefully get it all together.

Check out some cool stuff over [HERE]
